Abstract

thesis two simple, rapid, reproducible and accurate spectrophotometric i were developed involving the use of Fast Red AL salt and diazotized -6-chloro-1,3-benzene disulphonamide (DACBS) as chromogenic reag-
the analysis of 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives, namely, oxyquinoline, i, clioquinol and iodoquinof as well as dibenzazepine derivatives, clomipramine, desipramine and imipramine hydrochlorides and nine maleate.
’oposed methods are based on the interaction of either Fast Red AL
DACBS reagent with the investigated 8-hydroxyquino!ines to form
red coloured products measured at A-max{s} in the range of 500-530 nm
izazepines give no coloured products with Fast red AL salt, while they tense red coloured products measured at Xm in the range of 519-with DACBS reagent.
interaction between 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives and both reagents irformed in slightly alkaline media while DACBS reagent was interacted enzazepine derivatives in strongly acidic solutions .
;tive variables such as the reagents concentration, pH variation, reaction ability times and diluting solvents were studied and perfectly optimized to the development of simple, accurate and reproducible spectrophoto-methods for the analysis of all the studied drugs.

us variation and was found to be1:1 for all the studied drugs.
Under the optimized reaction conditions, calibration curves for all studied drugs were constructed by plotting absorbance versus the corresponding drug concentration. Beer’s law was found to be obeyed for all the studied drugs by the two reagents at their corresponding maxima over a wide range of concentration. The regression analysis of the results were done according to the least square line equations.
Sensitivity, accuracy and precision of the proposed procedures were proved by different experimental investigations and suitable statistical treatment of the obtained data.
interference due to the other co-formulated drugs, common additives and excipients, colouring and flavoring agents was studied in order to assess the selectivity of the proposed procedures.
The proposed methods were successfully applied for the determination of the investigated compounds in their pharmaceutical preparations. The results were compared statistically with those of the official and / or reported methods and were found to be in good agreement with them.
