SU1iIMARY
This thesis is divided into two main parts comprising four chapters:
The first chapter is devoted to aorbio acid. It deals with its properties, structural determination, synthesis, pharmacology, and its possible biosynthetic routes in animals and plants. The Structure and antisoorbutic activity relationship of its analogues has been covered as reported in the literature.
The second chapter includes a general outlook of the biochemical structure of cells and tissues in cancer, and a brief survey of drugs commonly used in its chemotherapy.
The third chapter coverS the discussion of the experiments carried out along with a survey of the work done in this field. This chapter covers two main topics:
A. The first topic deals with the synthesis, chemistry and properties of n-halo— ‘—aryl——hydroxy— —crotonolactones and the intermediates needed for their synthesis. It also includes the Synthesis of 3 new SubStituted—1,2,4- triazines.
B. The second topic includes the synthesis, chemistry, and properties of 5—aryl—3—bylroxy—tetronlmides, 4—aryl—a,3— dioxo—butyrolaotones and 5—aryl—3—hydroxy—tetronio acids
