Abstract The thesis contains five main parts. Part I: Comprises a discussion of the chemotherapy of tuber— oulosis including an introduction on the pathogenicity of tuberculosis and the types of tuberole organisms. It also includes the different ohemotberapeutic agents used in the treatment of T.B. including old and recent antituberoular drugs. Part II: Contains a brief discussion O the ohemistry of quinones including the different methods of preparation of a quinoid system and the chemical reactions of quinones including particularly ttze reactions of hydroxy quinones. part III: Includes a brief account on the chemistry of phthioool (2-niethyl—3—hydroxy-1 ,4-naphthoquinone), the method of its isolation from tuberole bacilli, the different methods of its synthesis and its chemical reactions. Part IV: In this the theoretical principles of the mechanism of the reactions used for the preparation Of the new products as well as trial to discuss the probable theoretical basis for the unsuccessful experiments. |
