Abstract

The aim of this work is to assess the different techniques of ERCP in management of patients with obstructive jaundice and to collect the diverse recent development in the uses of ERCP in a simple systemic way. It is hoped to be an aid for the endoscopist dealing with these cases, guiding him as how to approach the individual problems bases on the up date knowledge.
We conclude that:
ERCP should be restricted for cases in need for interventional procedures because of diagnostic ERCP alone is now, obsolete.
It can define the site, cause and degree of obstruction. Now, ERCP is considered as a safe and effective treatment modality for patients with obstructive kaundice.
So, it has an upper hand in management of surgical jaundice, and it can replace surgery in many instances.
