Abstract

Aim of the work
To estimate the serum levels of eosinophil cationic protein (ECP), intercellular adhesion molecules-1 (ICAM-1), IgE and CRP in acute attacks of bronchial asthma and to determine their relations to different clinical and laboratory parameters.
Conclusion

We concluded that ECP was useful for the evaluation of asthmatic inflammation in children and it more predictive the eosinophil count, and also ICAM-1 was prognostic test in asthmatic patients during exacerbation, the determination of the inflammatory markers together with routine tests specially C-reactive protein quantitation, also total and differential white blood cell counts in relation to the presence of clinical signs would provide an indirect evidence for the presence of infection and the need for specific therapy.
