The aim of this work is assessement of antisparm antibodies (ASAs) in sera and seminal plasma of infertile male patients attending the out patient of suez canal university in ismailia city
A description of the different causes of male infertility was given including :
History , physical examination (general and local ) hormonal estimation for FSH
Semen analysis including ASAs , sperm agglutination fructose test , blood for FSH level and prevalence ASAs
Description of different methods and techniques used in this work were given
Exclusion criteria of the study was given such as diabetes mellitus connective tissue diseases , thyroid diseases , lymphomas , patients taking ammunosupperessive therapy and patients with active urinary tract infection (UTI)
Finding of 64 cases of infertile patients and 40 cases of normal fertile men (as control ) were tabulated and discussed
It was evident from the work that :
Age range was 20 _50 years
All cases were males 64 infertile and 40 normal fertile as control
Prevalence of ASAs in serum of study group was 22 %
Prevalence of ASAs in serum of control group was 2.5 %
Prevalence of ASAs in semen of study group was 7.8 %
Prevelance of ASAs in semen of control group was zero %
Insignificant correlation was found between ASAs in serum and seminal plasma significant correlation was found between ASAs and abnormal semenorgams ( number , shape and motility of sperms )
Several risk factors were identified for developing ASAs such as : varicocele , orchitis testicular trauma . obstruction of vas deferens and cryptorchidism
FSH may be elevated but not more than double (more than 20 miu \ml )
Suggesting guidelines for evaluating male infertile patients for ASAs (when to test for ASAs) were discussed i.e : idiopathic infertility in the presence of oligo _
Terato _ astherosperrmia ,sperm agglutination , and the presence of one or more of risk factors for developing ASAs
