Abstract Aim of the work Initial study trying to evaluate different methods in dealing with traumatic ruptured spleen and to start an initial work in EL-Minia University Hospital to salvage the spleen in suitable conditions of traumatic splenic injuries. Conclusion For many years splenectomy was the only and obligatory solution for traumatic injury of the spleen, until the 20th century where researches clarified the function of the spleen and it’s important. Discovering of OPSI (overwhelming post splenectomy infection) gave more idea to the surgeons about the necessity to salvage the spleen as much as possible to avoid these fatal complications. Nowadays, many studies were done on healing of the spleen (either spontaneously or by surgical repair) also introduction of modern techniques in hemostasis makes splenic salvage is an acceptable solution in traumatic injury of the spleen. Our conclusion, is that the spleen is an important organ in the body and its removal may result in serious complications especially in children, so we have to preserve it as much as we can either by non operative (conservative) management or by other operative salvageable techniques as splenorrhaphy or splenic auto transplantation. |
