Abstract
The objective of this work is to investigate a series of patient with urinary tract manifestations that are suggesting the presence of vesicoureteral reflux.
Summary and conclusion:
This study revealed that vesicoureteral reflux is accompanied by U.T.I and may be complicated by hydroureteronephrosis and impaired renal function.
Primary vesicoureteral reflux present in about 25% of children with urinary tract infection, it occurs in females 4 times more than males, and higher grades of primary reflux usually accompanied by abnormal renal anatomy and hypertension. The conservative treatment has a role in lower grades of reflux aiming to spontaneous subsidence but there is a tendency to do surgical interference with increasing age and grade of reflux. Secondary reflux is due to many causes and should be treated according to cause.
Vesicoureteral reflux usually affects children more in females. It is usually associated with UTI and the higher grade more commonly associated with abnormal kidneys and abnormal bladder functions as well as may complicated by pyelonephritis and renal scars. Conservative treatment is advised in almost all cases with normal kidneys and small ages as the spontaneous resolution with maturation of the ureterovesical junction is the aim. Surgical corrections indicated in high grades especially with abnormal kidneys and renal scars. Although surgery decreases the incidence of ascending infection, it does not affect the rate of urinary tract infections in the future.
