Abstract Hepatic fibrosis in schistosomiasis is one of’ the most serious owplications of the disease. It occurs in about one third of of intestinal schistosomiasis infection. Such liver involve— ant is a strong stimulant to extensive research to reveal the thology and pathogenesis of the syndrome. Efforts are also Jirected to control the disease, specific antischistosomal treatment one line of such control measures; up till now no antischisto— somal drug has proved ideal for mass chemotherapy of’ schistosomiasis as the side eff’cct are numerous. Some of these drugs have adverse effect on the liver through direct hepatotoxicity, or through hepatic shift of worms, thus making a thorough study of the effect of treatment on the liver a necessity. The present study deals with some biochemical activities in the liver in case of experimental Schistosoma mansoni infection, to evaluate the liver function and liver cell integrity following Infection. oreover, the effect of’ four antischistosomal drugs of three different chemical groups, on the liver, has been studied. |
