Abstract This study was conducted at the farm of the Department of Animal Production, Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University to examine the effect of some weaning systems, sex, season of calving and castration on weaning weight, body weight at different age intervals, performance, body measurements and breeding efficiency for females. The relationship between body weight and body measurements was also studied. Twenty five male buffalo calves and 19 male cow calves were slaughtered at 2 years old to examine the effect of the above mentioned factors on carcass traits. The relationship between carcass traits and body measurements was computed. Weaning systems used for buffalo and cow calves were: 1- Whole milk + starter diet (LW + ST.) 2- Whole milk + Co-op feed (LW + Co-op) 3- Skin milk + Starter diet (SM + ST.) A fourth system was used only for buffalo calves which is a foster mother (cow )+ starter diet (FM + ST.) |
