Abstract

The separation of finely dispersed oil from oil- water emusions was carried out in an electroflotation cells equipped with a set of electrodes, either fe or Pb anodes and a stainless steel screen cathode. The effect of operating and desing perameters such as current density. Initial oil concenthdes screen mesh size and volume of emusion to cathode area on the performance of the electroflotation process was examined.
The percentage oil removal reached 75% in case of fe anode type at 5 mA/cm. Addition of fecl ”50 mg /L” enhanced oil removal up to 100% and a very low power consumption of 2 kwh /m was requird.
Addition of 3.5% Nacl by weight achieved about 100% oil removal and gave lower power consumption of 1.5 kwh /m. A mathematical correlation based on statistical treatment of the experimental data of fe anode system was provided and found to fit wall with the change in percentage oil removal for a wide range of operating parameters.
On the other hand. The percentage oil removal of Pb anode system was increased from 63 to 92% by the use of 20 mg /L cationic polvelectrolvte.
