Abstract
The present study was carried out during 1994 and 1995 seasons at the Experimental Farm of faculty of Agricultural, El-Minia University to study the effect of plant population and weed control treatments on growth characteristics, yield and yield components on some maize varieties.
A split-split plot design was used with four replications. The obtained data were summarized as follows:
1- fresh and dry weight of narrow, broad-leaved weeds and total weeds at 45 days from planting were not varied significantly with maize cultivars in both seasons.these traits were decreased significantly hby increasing plantpopulation and also weed control treatments . the highest reduction in fresh and dry weight of total weeds were obtained by planting 30.000 plants/fed. Combined with gesaprim herbicide.
2- fresh and dry weight of narrow , broad-leaved weeds and tatal weeds at 60 days from planting were significantly differences between the studied maize cultivars in 1995 season . increasing plant population from 20.000 to 30.000 plants/fed. And also weed control treatments caused decrease these traits . the highest reduction in fresh weight of total weeds was obtained by planting 30.000 plants/fed. From 310 and gesaprim herbicide.
