Abstract

RecentLy abig amount of naturaL gas is being produced in Egypt.
the greatest protion of this gas is used for domestic purposes,
power station and fertiLizer production.mean whiLe the petrochemicaL
industries in Egypt are based on the production of polyethylene
from imported ethylene.thus the objective of the present work
is to separate ethane from natural gas to satisfy our indstrial
require ments.the following sequence is suggested:
-coLLection of natural gas .
-RemovaL of heavy hydrocarbons and DROPLets of Liqid water.
-RemovaL of acid gases (CO2 and HzS)from natural gas using
monoethanoL amine through an absorption process.
-RemovaL of water vapor from naturaL gas (dehydrating)using
moLecuLar sieve in an adsorption process.
-Successive cooLing for Liquifaction.
-fractionation for separating ethan from the mixture.
-CataLytic cracking of ethane to produce ethyLene.
The ethyLene produced can be fed to the poLymerization pLant for
the production of poLyethyLene.
Atransition metaL cataLyst is used in the poLymerziation pLant
where the working pressure is around 650 psia and temperature
is around 107C.
