Abstract Lake edku is a coastal lagoon in the south eastern Mediterranean region, situated west of the nile delta. The lake is connected to the Mediterranean Sea via boughaz el-maadia, through which sewage and industrial wastes discharging into the sea from tabia pumping station may enter into the lake during stormy days. The water feeding Lake Edku is derived from different sources; it principally comes from three main drains, followed in importance by the sea water inrush, rainfall and seepage of underground water from the cultivated land. The increase in the volume of drainage water discharges in recent years affected the hydrography and chemistry of Lake Edku. |
