Abstract

Clean environment is the aim of all the world, and prevention or control of pollution sources is very important. Oil spills are avery dangerous source of pollution and if we look at the composition of crude oil, we will find certain heavy metals present in it, exposure to which is deadly on the aquatic. So quick removal of that pollution source and prevention of its distribution is very important.
The present study is ann effort to contribute to the quick removal studies for oil spills.
There are anumber of techniques, which have been common for oil spill clean up . Such techniques are: mechanical treatment, chemical treatment and physical treatment. Mechanical techniques include using a boom which is basically a floatable trap at the surface while at the same time permitting the flow of water under the debris-formed dam. Chemical techniques include dispersing chemicals on the water surface to help emulsifying the oil in water.
Physical techniques depend on adsorbing the oil on some materials, known as sorbents and these are divided into three types:
Organic Sorbents.
Inorganic Sorbents.
Synthetic Sorbents.
The Thesis consists of 6 chapters:
Chapter1:Is the literature survey,
Chapter2 : Is the theoretical part.
Chapter3 :Is the experimental part.
Chapter4 :Includes the results obtained from the experimental work.
Chapter5 :presents asuggestion for the design of an oil filter.
Chapter6 :Is asummary for conclusion of the work.
