Abstract The aim of the present study is identify the concerns and reactions of families towards their chronic hospitalized Mentally I zed all patient. The study was carried out at el-nobody El-Mohandas psychiatric hospital in Alexandria and the of chronic hospitalized mental patients. The sample consisted of 100 informants from families of chronic hospitalized mental patients. Data were collected by an interview schedule and results showed the following. The commonest behaviors that led to patient’s hospitalization as mentioned by informants were insomnia (83%) excitement aggression (78%) bizarre behavior (67%) food refusal (31%) suicidal behavior (18%) and withdrawal behavior (10%). The informants perceived mental illness like any other disease in 36% of cases as the most difficult disease they ever saw in 15%of cases while 9% considered it a psychological disturbance. Informants feeling about their patients initial symptoms tended to the informants felt sad be positive. Around 62% of the informants felt sad while 55% of them felt afraid about their patents. |
