Abstract

The dynamic forces generated at the interaction between the tractor tyres and terrain is very difficult to carried out experimentally and also, it more complex to model them accurately. These dynamic forces play an important role in the analysis of the tractor stability moving over soft soil.these forces are, in turn, determined by adetailed understanding of the normal and shear forces at the tyre-soil interface.
The work described in this thesis is concerned with an investigation of the dynamic forces between the lugged tyre and the terrain in the three directions.Atheoretical study of the tractor stability based upon the non-linear equations mathematical model of the whole tractor subject to road surface input in time domain is presented. The lift, pull and lateral dynamic forces were predicted after solving the mathematical model.
The investigation includes astudy of the effect of lug height, lug angle and lug space with the view of improving the tractor stability. Also, two types of soil, clay and sand, are used to indicate their effect on lug dynamic forces in the three directions vertical, longitudinal and lateral directions.most of the parameters of each soil were measured in soil laboratory and used in the mathematical model.
Atwo cage wheels test rig was designed and constructed to carried out the dynamic forces in the three directions.Acomputerized system was used to get accurately results of the lug dynamic forces. Amathematical model for the two cage wheels and soil. The measured results of the dynamic lug forces in the three directions are presented and compared with the predicted results.
