Abstract
This study was carried out during 2005 and 2006 seasons on Superior grapevines in a private vineyard situated at Luxor district. This study aimed to throw some light on the effect of Dormex, girdling trunk or arms and Ethephon on behaviour of buds, yield, and maturation as well as physical and chemical properties of Superior grapes.
Three factors were involved in this experiment. The first factor consisted from two concentrations of Dormex namely 0.0 and 5.0 %. The second factor included seven treatments of girdling namely ungirdling, trunk girdling before first bloom, trunk girdling after berry setting, trunk girdling on veraison stage, arms girdling before first bloom, arms girdling after berry setting and arms girdling on veraison stage. The third factor comprised four concentrations of Ethephon namely 0.0, 125, 250 and 500 ppm.
According to the obtained results, the most promising treatment included the application of 5 % Dormex at 7 January, carrying out trunk girdling after berry setting (2nd week of April) and spraying 250 ppm Ethephon at veraison stage (Last week of April). This recommendation is very potential for controlling the great drawback of Superior grapevine namely shot berries and at the same time caused an obvious advancing in maturation which reflected in facilitating the possibility of exporting such prime grape cv. to foreign markets.
