Abstract

The prcscnt work Was carried out to study the correlation bclwecll the production an<.IJor thc activitics uf ccll wnll degrading cnzymcs secreted by Fusarium oXYSfJOrlll11 f.sp. ~Fcopersici on tomato plant during infection process and resistance and susceptibility of the difTerent host cultivars to infection with the pathogen. For this purpose, the following aspects were studied:
(I) The in-Vitro production of cell Woll dcgrnding Cnzymes by Fusarlum oxysporum fsp. Iycopersid (on ccll walls of three (0”1I1to cultivms, supermarmmand. Peto-86 and Hybrid Iuxor).
(2) The in-Vivo production of cell wnll degrnding cnzymes from hcnllhy and infected tomato plant.
(3) The possible role of these cell wall degrading enzymes’ on degradation of cell wall and maceration of plant tissues.
(4) The possible role of some phenolic compounds (catechol, pyrogallol, and cinnamic acid) and phenolics extracted from tomato plant in thc effect on cell wall degrading enzymes and their possible role in the resistance mechanism.
(5) Estimation of the amounts of phenolics tn healthy and infected susceptible and resistant tomato plants.
