Abstract

One hundred sixty} 72-weeks old~SL)hens were used to study the performance of non-mol tf’d und force mol ted(LSL) hens during oecond layin:~ period. 1I1ao the study directed
to determine the effects of force moltinG treatment on some blood parameters. The heno were housed individually in all wire layine caees (20x40x45 cm). There were 4 treatments (control, FM-I, FII1-2 Elnd PiI-J). The force molt was induced
by feed removal for 10 c![IYo v:ith \’later t:\d-li~itum. Immediatly after the fastinc rh~18e,(}\f.:-1) were fed a.laying rnnsh rflt:i.on,wh!.~e

Heparinized blood samples were obtained by pricking
the brachial vein. Haemetocrit, Haemoglobin, total protein, albumin, globulin, cholesterol and the heterophil-lymphocyte ratio were determined.
1- After 10 days feed removal the molting program hens had an average weight loss of about 32 %, 34 % and 30 % for· (FM-1), (FM-2) and (Fr.I-3) respectively.
2- All 3 groups subjected to 10 days of feed removal the
egg production was DROPped to zero egg production on
the eightnor nineth day. The number of dayaout of production were 14 days for{FM-1)whiCh were returned immediately to feeding layer mash ration. While those.were fed a cracked yellow corn for one week (FM-2), and for
two weeks (FM-3) were 16 and 20 days, respectively.
3- During the 25-week test period the non-force molted hens produced significantly (P~0.05) less number of eggs than those that vrere force molted. The control birds produced at the rate of 23.88 % compared with 52.57 %, 60.63 % ~nd 62.15 %, respectively, for the force molted hens in treatments CFll-l), ~M-2)and (F’M-3).
4- F~rce molt improved shell thickness up to 15 weeks posttmolt.
5- Saleable eggs consisted of 92.14 ~ of all eCes for the control compared with 96.97 % to 97.67 % for the force
6- The force moltinc hen8 exhibited a significant increase (P~O.05) in lwcrnuLocl’it, huernoc;lobin, cholesterol and heterophil-lymphocyte ratio, while plamna total protein, albwain, and globulin were decreased (P~ 0.05) on 9,
16 and 23 days nfter initiation of force molt. These
