Abstract This study was conducted using five tomato parents including American cultivars e.g.ohio, 7663,(saladette) and Nagcarlang in addition to two inbred lines with good horticultural characteristics e.g. line 16 and line C1943, hybridization was conducted in the open field within the growing season of 1996/1997 and resulted in4 f1 hybrids. Parents and their new hybrids were planted in 3 growing seasons e.g. the fall season (july, 1997) summer season (may, 1998) and the winter season (November, 1998) under the conditions of EL- minia at the fac. Agric. Farm EL-minia university. Before planting either in the nursery or in the open field the new f1 hybrid seeds and /or their transplants were treated with the antioxidant compounds e.g. acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), ascorbic (AA), salicylic acid (SA)and thiourea (Thi) at 4 Mm to show the effect of these compounds on some horticultural characters e.g. mean of fruit weight/plant (Kg), total yield (ton/fed), average fruit weight (g) fruit shape index number of locules /fruit, PH, titratable acidity (%) reducing sugars (%) vitamin (C) (mg/100g juice) total soluble solids (TSS)green leaves content of chlorophyll ”a” ”b” and carotenoides (mg/g fresh weight) and seed germination percentage (%) shoot length (mm)and length(mm). |
