Abstract The first objective of this study was to compare two methods for prevention of OHSS: coasting and intravenous albumin administration at the time of oocyte retrieval in ART Ain Shams University Maternity Hospitals during the period from September 2003 to September 2005. The second objective was to determine if different duration of coasting would affect ART performances and outcomes or not. The study included a total of 90 infertile women of those attending the (ART) unit. Patients were enrolled in this study during the stimulation cycle for rVF or rcsr when serum estradiol level was more than 3000 pg Iml and lor the number of follicles in both ovaries was more than 20 follicles. Patients with previous history of OHSS who did not develop these criteria during the treatment cycle were not included in this study. All patients started the ovarian stimulation protocol according to the long protocol. The GnRH agonist buserelin acetate was administered subcutaneously at a daily dose of 500 ug starting in the midluteal phase of the cycle preceding stimulating one and was continued for 12 - 14 days till the onset of menstruation. Subsequently, controlled ovarian hyperstimulation was then initiated with FSH and I or hMG III appropriate doses according to the age of the patient, FSH level and ovarian volume. |
