Abstract

Central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) is one of the most common retinal vascular disorders. Many patients have decreased visual acuity as a result of macular oedema (Ip et al., 2003).
Several treatment options were tried for patients with CRVO including conservative treatment (diet, medical treatment ...,) and laser treatment. The CRVO study demonstrated that grid photocoagulation had no significant impact on the final visual acuity of eyes with CRVO and macular oedema (The Central Retinal Vein Occlusion Study Group, 1995).
Within the last two years, intravitreal application of triamcinolone acetonide has exponetially increased as a treatment of various intraocular neovascular and oedematous proliferative disorders (Jonas et al., 2004).
The present study was performed for the purpose of evaluating the efficacy and safety of intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide in patients suffering from macular oedema secondary to CRVO.
The study was carried on 20 eyes divided into two groups:
Group A: 10 eyes injected intravitreally with 4mg triamcinolone acetonide.
Group B: 10 eyes (as control group).
