Abstract

The aim of this work is to compare the diagnostic yield of thoracic ultrasonography with computed tomography in pleural and peripheral pulmonary lesions.
Between July 2005 10 July 2007,50 patients (31 males + 19 females) with an age ranging from (29 to 85) years with pleural and/or peripheral pulmonary lesions abutted to chest wall. They were evidenced by chest x- ray (postero-anterior and lateral views) and admitted at Chest department and Radiology Departments at Zagazig University Hospitals.
All patients were subjected to the following:
1- Thorough medical history taking.
2- Full clinical examination (General and local).
3- Routine laboratory investigations.
- Complete blood count.
- Bleeding, clotting time and prothrombin time.
- Erythrocyte sedimentation rate.
- Blood urea and serum creatinine.
- Liver function tests: bilirubin (total and direct), ALT, AST, total
protein and serum albumin.
4- Plain chest x ray: (postcro- anterior and lateral views)
5- Pelviabdominal ultr,asonogrnpy
6- Tuberculin skin test
7- Sputum examination: Zn and cytology in expectorating patient.
8 Chest ultrasonography.
9- Contrast enhanced conventional Computed Tomography
