Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is caused, in almost all cases, by diminished rats of secretion of insulin by the beta cells of the islets of langerhans. Three major effects of insulin lack are: Decreased utilization of glucose by the body cells, with a resultant increase in blood glucose. markedly increased mobilization of the fat storage area, causing abnormal fat metabolism as well as deposition of lipids in vascular walls to cause atherosclerosis. Depletion of protein in body tissues. Other related symptoms are polyphagia (excessive eating) and loss of weight. The most important components of diabetic management are diet and insulin. The relationship between diet and diabetes is important from the stand point of treatment, but also it is related to etiology of diabetes. Aim of study: The main objective of the present investigation was to study the effect of some commercial herb formulae distributed in the local market for treating the blood glucose level disorders, so as to show whether they are valid as just a frandulence. Study carried out using experimental animals (rats).
