Abstract Foeniculum vulgare Miller, is one of the most economical and promising medicinal and aromatic plants grown in Egypt. It belongs to Family Apiaceae and it is considered as one of the most important and widely cultivated medicinal and aromatic plants grown in middle Egypt Governorates. The fruits contain 2-3.4 % volatile oil with the most important components being anethole and fenchone Fennel fruits are used in medicinal folklore and bakery, and the volatile oil is involved in different pharmaceutical purposes and food industry. Two field experiments were carried out on fennel plants during two successive seasons, 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 in the Experimental Farm and Laboratory of Ornamental Plants Division, Horticulture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University. The first one aimed to explore the response of Foeniculum vulgare plants to six plant density treatments, as the main factor, and Nofatrein (a complete foliar fertilizer ) . and Biogen (a N-fixing bacteria bioferfilizer ) treatments, as the secondary factor, in terms of vegetative growth characters. Yield and yield component parameters, volatile oil and some chemical constituents. While, the second experiment was executed to investigate the influence of four NPK mineral fertilization treatments as the main factor, and Phosphorein (biofertilization), as the secondary factor on the same per-mentioned aspects of fennel plants. |
