Abstract
Three experiments were carried out during the two seasons of 1979 and 1980 in the newly reclaimed sandy calcareous soil in western Samalout, El-Minia Governorate.
The varietal experiment :
This experiment was carried out in order to evaluate five lima bean varieties, ” Dixie Butterpea White” ,” Henderson” , ” Thorogreen” , ”Jackson wonder” and ”Jackson wonder (Bush)” from the view point of method of cultivation (single and double row) and plant spacing (5 cm. or 10 cm.).
This experiment was designed as split split-plot. All plants were fertilized with 50 kg/feddan urea, 50 kg/feedan ammonium sulphate, 300 kg/feddan superphosphate, 50 kg/feddan magnesium sulphate and 300 kg/feddan potassium sulphate and were inoculated with Rhizobium spp.
Also, a foliar spray consisted of 6 trace elements was applied three times at 25 , 40 and 55 days after planting.
