Abstract Aging is associated with many physiological and psychological changes that predispose to the occurrence of several health problems which require medical intervention and can lead to more prescriptions. In spite of the prevalence of chronic diseases that need long-term therapy, elderly persons may medicate themselves with over the counter drugs without consulting their physician. This multiple drug use can lead to poor compliance with the prescribed drug regimen.
