Abstract Critical thinking has become a catchphrase among nurse educators today and Increasingly important in nursing .the importance of critical thinking to nursing emerged as the national League for nursing (2007)identified critical thinking as a core competence of nursing education and pratice .in addition, it is a key for problem solving and decision making process as well as it a powerful tool in search for knowledge and promotion of evidence based practice. consequently, nursing programs heas developed outcomes-focused curricula with a major emphasis on helping student to think critically.indeed, nurse educators play an important role in the development of good critical thinker. this critical thinker is a person not only has critical thinking skills but also has dispositions to use these skills. critical thinking dispositions include seven attributes which are analyticity, open- mindedness, truth-seeking, systematicity, critical thinking self-confidence, inquisitiveness and cognitive maturity. Thus, nurse educators need to be critical thinkers themselves in order to be role model and be able to create learning environment that foster critical thinking abilities. however, nursing researchers have focused their energies upon measuring students’ critical thinking, whereas the process required by nurse educators to facilitate critical thought in student’s populations has been overlooked.As a result, this study represents the first step to fulfill this research gap as it aimed to examine critical thinking dispositions among nurse educators, determine the relationship betweencriticl thinking disposition and selected variables and finally identify nurse educators’ opinions regarding factors that affect their critical thinking dispositions. |
