Abstract This thesis is an experimental investigation on channel type solar air heaters in an effort to evaluate and improve its thermal performance. Although many investigations were made in this subject it appears that much is left to study especially in the transition regime where the flow is neither laminar nor turbulant. The experimental facility include flat as well as corrugated absorber plates, three types of corrugat ed plates were tested viz circular, rectangular and triangular. In this study the system parameters include the air flow pas¬sage arrangement, interplate spacing, inlet air temperatures together with number of glass covers. The corrugated absorber plates were shown to enhance the efficiency of the collector at high flow rates while retard it at lower flow rates. In addition the circular corrugated plate is most efficient since the eddies created.in sharp corners were minimum. |
