Abstract This study aimed at developing pupils’ reading skills of first year preparatory stage through jigsaw II method. Fifty pupils enrolled in the first year, Taha Hussein, Prep school were the subject of this study. They were divided into two groups; each consists of twenty-five pupils. Both groups were tested before experimentation to ensure that there were no significant differences between them. Then, the experimentation was conducted for the experimental group through eleven lessons using the jigsaw II method, which were taught by the researcher. As for the control group, it was taught by the class EFL teacher using the common method as planned in the curriculum. This treatment lasted for the first semester (2007/ 2008). After experimentation, both groups were tested using the same test used before the experimentation. Data was treated statistically and findings were analyzed and discussed. Results showed the effectiveness of the jigsaw II method in developing the reading skills of first year preparatory school pupils. |
