Abstract

Singeing has great influence on yarn hairiness and hairiness variation is been reduced considerably. Thus, if a clean and smooth surface is desired, e.g. for sewing and embroidery thread, this can often be achieved only by singeing, as singeing minimize the pilling in the yarn. Singed yarn will provide a soft feel, clean surface, good luster in the fabric and it significantly enhances the perceived value of the garment. A garment manufactured with singed yarn will provide better value for money as the fresh look will retained after many washes. Singeing enhance the luster of the fabric after mercerization. So singeing is inevitable for certain applications. Many manufactures and numerous companies inter this field but the reports and studies about singeing and singed yarn still insufficient. so this research will study the quality and performance of singed yarn and will try to evaluate the economical benefit of singeing compared by other methods of reducing yarn hairiness and attempt to judge between their cost and produced yarn quality, this by calculating cost of one ton singed yarn and cost of one ton compact yarn.
This research will discuss a compression between singed yarn, compact yarn and ring spun yarn. The comparison will contants yarn appearance, quality and cost comparison. Singed yarn has the best quality and appearance but it is more expensive than other types of yarn. To decrease cost of singed yarn there are many points were been discussed to minimize material losses during singeing as the cost comparison explained that raw material cost is the main item in yarn cost. The first point was discussed, yarn waxing prior to singeing. The second item was conditioning of singed yarn after rewinding as great percent of yarn moisture content is losing during singeing process due to thermal effect. Every excess process means excess cost, as this increase cost factors like labor cost, machinery cost, power consumption cost management ….etc. this research presents a new suggested production line for singed which is less number of production steps.
Yarn hairiness has a great effect on textiles quality and causes problems during weaving and knitting processes.
The main object of singeing is reducing hairiness also tenacity in creased , this related to thermal effect during singeing as percent of fiber wax content was loosed so fiber friction is increased , this means more coherence between yarn fibers so yarn tension increases also .
Singeing enhance the luster of the fabric after mercerization. So singeing is inevitable for certain applications. Many manufactures and numerous companies inter this field but the reports and studies about singeing and singed yarn still insufficient
Singed yarn cost can been reduced by operating singeing machine with suitable setting to minimize percent of losses of yarn weight and option good yarn quality, also waxing of yarn prior to singeing decrease percent of losses. Conditions of yarn after singeing re provide the losses in percent of moisture content in yarn during singeing.
Reducing number of processes required to produce singed yarn is possible by using new processes sequence, which makes subsequent rewinding is unnecessary, this ideas will evaluate the benefits of singeing compared by other methods of reducing yarn hairiness
(This idea increases the profitability of singed yarn).
