Abstract This thesis reviews and analyze the frequent and auth-oritative, ngineering economic , factors which must be onsidered when f proper main propulsion machinery is to be carried out •The esearch work starts by ’ed the state of theart in terms of arrangements and power outout, fuel and lub-ricants, ma.intenance and repair,. as well El- reliability for each conventional type of propulsion machinry. The importance of establishing meaningfull performance measures for comparing the relative erits of alternate power plants has been consi¬dered • Performance data for the major parameters which would facilitate such meaningfull comparison has also been provided.There are many factors that have influenced the choice of suitable machinery as prime mover.
