Abstract CLOUDS AND THEIR SHADOWS IS A COMMON FEATURE IN REMOTELY SENSED IMAGES. SINCE CLOUDS NOT ONLY HIDE THE GROUND BUT ALSO CAST THEIR SHADOWS ON THE GROUND, THEY IMPEDE MANY APPLICATIONS. THE CONVENTIONAL METHODS AS THRESHOLDING AND SUBTRACTING IMAGES METHODS FAILED TO DETECT SMALL CLOUDS AND THEY HAVE THE DRAWBACKOF MISRECOGNITION. THIS THESIS PRESENTS A NOVEL SCHEME FOR DETECTION AND REMOVAL OF CLOUDS AND THEIR SHADOWS from LANDSAT TM IMAGES USING IMAGE FUSION TECHNIQUE BASED ON TWO-DIMENSIONAL DISCRETE WAVELET TRANSFORM (2D-DWT). THE NOVEL METHOD DEPENDS ON WAVELET THREHOLDING. THE RESULTS USING WAVELET THRECHOLDING IS ABLE TO DETECT CLOUDS AND SHADWS EFFICENTLY AND OVERCOMES THE PROBLEM OF MISRECOGNITION OF CLOUDS OR SHADOWS. |
