Abstract This thesis is mainly concerned with conical map projections a special regard is given to conformal projections since the property of conformal is basic to any projections which should be used for surveying. A study is conducted for application of this type of projection for mapping the whole world, hemisphere or any limited country. A special detailed study is given for the applications on Egypt, Together with an investigation directed towards the evaluation of such application as compared to other projections. Emphasis is given throughout the work to the distortion values in different parts a projected map. In chapter 1 : a general study of various types of projections was introduced. Chapter 2 : include a comprehensive study of various types of conical projection. Chapter 3 : was devoted to study the projection which represents the main theme of this work. Chapter 4 : a computer program for the computation of both polar coordinates and distortion parameters is performed. In chapter 5 :a similar application was given to transverse Mercator projection in Egypt. Chapter 6 : include a comprehensive comparative study between transverse Mercator projection. The thesis was concluded by a general review of the most important occlusions and recommendations reached throughout the work. |
