Abstract

Growth and progress of transportation modes are
the major problems that concern highway agencies. Heavly axle loads, high speeds and load repetitions may develop instability in the highway pavement. It is known that increasing the pavement section does not solve completely the instability problem, as well as, increasing of• pave¬ment maintenance costs. New rational design approaches be important to reduce the construction and mainte¬costs of pavement based on good understanding of the .oil characteristics under the action of heavely fast In recent years, more interest has been directed wards the investigation of the behaviour of pavements d subgrade under static or gradually applied loads.
has been done relating to the be¬under repeated loads.
Every component in highway pavement contributes overall behaviour of such structure and better rstanding is needed to study the contribution of each ment component. The present investigation is conduc¬to extend the knowledge of the behaviour of stabilized Fine sand under repeated compressive loads. Furthermore, . luation of the modulus of resilience of different of sand mixes is presented. The modulus of resil- determined from repeated load testing provides a of the desired proporties of trans¬as needed in design, than proporties testing.
This thesis is initiated to investigate the pro¬of using stabilized fine sand in the pavements static loads. One type of slightly calcarious sand Three methods of soil lization have been employed in this work; cement, and asphalt emulsion.
The mechanical engineering proporties, such as strength, curing time and soaking are each method of soil stabilization used.
The behaviour of stabilized fine sand under repe¬of wheel load by measuring the resilience charac¬is investigated. The major factors such as, confining pressure and stress level under peated loads affecting the fatigue and resilience haracteristics of stabilized fine sand are studied. The test results have been analized and a correlation
