Abstract In recent. years there has been a growing awareness in industry. of the benefits to be gained by adopting disc motor drives. Disc motor drives have superior characte¬ristic and have many distin~uished advantages compared with cylindrical type machines. The main advantages of disc motors are: br>Low moment of inertia. Friction and windage losses are much lower. Transient in armature circuit proceeds rapidly due to lower inductance value. At switching off, we have a created braking torque due to eddy currents. High current density could be reached. br>( vi) Good ventilation as it’is an open ventilated machine. (vii) High (Power/mass) and (Power/volume) ratios. br>(viii) The motor could be constructed with multi stages to multiply power. On the other hand, the main disadvantages ( i) High ohmic losses. (ii) High eddy current, gets more m. m. from the source. iii) The rotor is liable (for deformation. iv Usually fractional horse power output. The following is a brief summary of the recent published work on disc motors. In 1970 C.G.Veinott(l) has described a d.c. disc motor which has printed windings on rotor sheet fed throughout fixed brushes. |
