Abstract The process of nitrate removal from neutralize acid waste by biological denitrification has been studi ~\bd developed. Batch bench (5 L vOlume) and fluidized b ~ reactors (210 cm long 5 cm I.D.), have been conducted t ” investigate the effect of the various parameters that affect the de nitrif ic at ion process, these parameters in elude the temperature (range from 15° to 28°C), pH from (6.9 to 7.3) and the concentration of nitrate ions from (50 to 4000 ppm). Feeds containing as high as 4000 ppm nitrate ions (NO;) together with methanol as an organic carbon source for bacterial growth and other life susta ning constituents were used. Anthracite coal particles with an average diameter of 0.345 mm were used as a sub¬strate for the denitrifying bacteria (Pseudomonas). Fl¬dized bed denitrification experiments were carried out by using different initial bed heights (20, 40, 60 cm). The maximum effiency of the denitrification was 97.1 % and at bed height (60 cm) the denitrification rate was |
