Abstract In recent years wool has been dear and the supply of it has been unequal to the demand. Logically, therefore trials to make artificial or synthetic wool were done. An extensive literature on the subject of modifying the properties of syn¬thetic fibers, in order to resemble natural wool, and the production of fibers with new properties have been reported. One of the important modifications of the properties of synthetic fibers is the imparting of crimp to the fibers. In general crimping in synthetic fibers can be induced by mechanical means, chemical means or by blending of different fibers which have different degrees of shrinkage. The mechanical crimp is not permanent as in the case of imparting crimp chemically. The importance that nylon monofilament is crimped, is that this crimp will increase the strength of fibers during spinning operations, this crimp also forms resistance to yarn slipping. |
