Abstract In the present work the author synthesized several B-ca.ffeine acid hydrazides together with some of their derivatives, as well as derivatives of 8-caffeine carboxy¬aldehyde to be tested for their antituberculous activity. The bacteriological investigations had showed that 8¬caffeineacetic acid hydrazide in 0.5% concentration is a more potent tuberculostat than isoniazid, streptomycin, and PA.S, using M. tubercle bacilli strain isolated from hospitalized patients in A.R.E. The thesis includes the following four chapters: I... J:ntroduct~ This consists of four parts. 1- Occurrence and relationships of caffeine to other purines. 2- Properties of caffeine. 3- Studies on 8-subs-tituted caffeine derivatives. 4- Ohemotherapy of tuberculosis. 11- Aim of The Present InyestiE;ation The auth.or illustrates in this chapter the micro¬biological and pharmacological basis of the present work and gives a scheme for the preparation of the new final suggested compounds. |
