Abstract Two mam types for the design of four-bar mechanisms to approximate an arbitrary input-output relation over a finite range of operation; namely order and point approximation are explained. The error behaviour throughout the range is inves¬tigated with a deduced equation for each type. Several formulae of varying degrees of accuracy and com¬plexity of calculations up to sixth order and six-point app¬roximations are derived. enabling a designer to selec•b the one best suited to his requirements. The flow charts of calculations of these methods are presented to facilitate their programming for computer use. Freudenstein’s trial method for minimizing the error between the precision points is modified. accelerating its convergence. Also a new method of optimization which is use¬ful for most error curves us~ng Chebichev method of spacing ~s developed Examples are g~ven to illustrate the methods of synthesis and optimization. |
