Abstract The work described in this thesis involves solutions of full journal bearings and ail analysis of their behaviour under boundary conditions which take into consideration the shape and nature of lubricant-.film rupture. To generalize the treatment; the study deals with bearings subjected tc variable conditionsof speeds and loading (dynamically-loaded bearings). A model loading CD of film rupture taking into account both tvb.e finger-patternaid the flow carried aviay over and/or under the cavity is adop¬ted. A velocityparameter is defined, in terms of which, the boundary conditions at the trailing edge are derived. governing equations Lons are set up, in a dimensionless form and a numerical method of solution is demonstrated. The pressure isobars and cavity profile are shown at different depths ofthe clearance space. Thus the shape of the separation line is obtained. I modification, is suggested. so that the conditions at the boundary may accomodate the occurance of cavitation at higher loads. |
