Abstract An experimental study to improve the efficiency of radiant type gas burning furnaces was carried out in a water coaled rectangular furnaces of inside clear dimensions 2950 x 950 x 1150 nun. This was done by adding solid materials in a form of powder to the gaseous fuel flame. The materials used were: ash, lime, and coal. The radiant type furnace efficiency and the flame characteristics were studied for the gaseous fuel alone, and when the solid materials were added to the flame. The naturally aspirated gas burner, provided with a method of spraying the solid materials on the gaseous flame with the aid of compressed air was used. The experimental results showed that, when using lime the efficiency decreased at low values of gas flow rates and increased. at high gas f’Lowrates. The use of ash or coal ~creased the e~ficiency but the amount of increase in the oase of adding coal was greater than that in the case of adding ash because coal generates heat, besides the effect of solid particles. Also experimental results showed that flame emissivity, in the oase of usiDg solid mater1.e.ls,increased by increasing gas flow rate and/or solid particles rate. The flame temperature increased as gas flow rates increased. When adding coal to the gaseous fuel flame, the temperature decreased at low primary air-fuel ratio and at all coal flow rates, but increased at high primary air-fuel ratio and high coal flow rates. When adding sol±d particles of lime and ash, flame true temperature decreased as the solid particles rates were inoreased • The flame intensity decreased as the primary airfuel ratio increased when gaseous fuel was fired only, but when adding solid particles to gaseous fuel flame, its intensity increased as the primary air-fuel ratio and or solid materials increased. |
