Abstract thesis presents a detailed description of theoretical and 7tal study of Flexural-Torsional buckling strength of cold- s,::eel columns. ly symmetrical open section columns under axial load are red. A simplified formula for determining the Torsional-al buckling load of thin-walled open sections is presented. to exmine the validity of this formula, the results are ed with the exact solution as well as with some experimental 4gations. The good agreement between the simple formula and solution as well as the test results approves its validity in ning the ultimate load of columns. buckling resistance of 23 cold-formed channels were tested ression with hinged end condition about the strong axis and fixed end condition about the weak axis. The ends of columns fully restrained against warping. These types of columns with ent dimensions, consisting of lipped channel sections, double channel sections, and plane channel sections, were tested. ength of the specimens and the cross-sections dimensions as as the end conditions were chosen in order that failure occurs flexural-torsional buckling mode. Detailed measurements of initial imperfections as well as the stress-strain cteristics of the material forming the sections were also bed. |
