Abstract Aim of the work The aim of our study was to assess LV functions after the first AMI by measuring the systolic and diastolic mitral annular velocity profiles using pulsed wave Doppler tissue imaging and to compare these profiles with the gold standard echo Doppler indices. In Conclusion: • Both systolic and diastolic MAV can be easily recorded by TDE. • The reduced peak systolic and diastolic velocity seems to be an expression of regionally reduced myocardial function especially at the infarction sites and so reflects regional systolic and diastolic dysfunction respectively. • There was a good agreement between echo and TDE on the presence or absence of preserved LV systolic and diastolic functions. • Thus, TDE assessment of systolic and diastolic myocardial velocity adds a new dimension to complement the conventional echocardiographic study by quantification of the myocardial velocity along its long axis and so to assess accurately not only global but also regional LV systolic and diastolic functions. |
