Abstract Aim of the work To study lumbar spine involvement in R.A. patients clinically and radiologically (and compare with mechanical low back pain). Conclusion Although patients with RA suffering from low back pain present a promising experimental paradigm, the results do not indicate a clear clinical syndrome which would characterize inflammatory synovitis of the facet joint. The cause of low back pain is likely to be multifactor including: Facet joint synovitis, Osteoporosis, Sacroilitis, Disk narrowing, Gait abnormalities associated with lower limb joints involvement, The effect of steroids on ligament laxity and muscle bulk, Or spondylolisthesis associated with severe inflammatory changes. Disk narrowing without osteophyte formation occurred more frequently in our group with RA. Osteoporosis was found more frequently in RA, but this was not associated with steroid and other drugs (DMARDs) use. |
