Abstract This thesis presents a method for the detection and the estimation of the directions of underwater targets during the operation of the submarines underwater when the signals coming from these targets are coherent, in case of smart Jamming, by applying the spatial smoothing technique. The thesis also modified spatial smoothing technique that requires a number of the sensor elements, of the linear array of the submarine less than that required by the conventional spatial smoothing technique. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter presents an introduction summarizing the nature of sonar. The second chapter explains the application of the Eigen structure technique to estimate the directions of arrival of uncorrelated or partially correlated. The Third chapter presents how to estimate and detect the directions of arrival of multi targets .the fourth chapter presents two methods to improve the spatial smoothing technique. in chapter five we present experimental set up of spatial smoothing technique to estimate the directions of arrival of two coherent |
