Abstract The object of the present investigation was to study the behaviour ofcompression zones confined by stirrups. An experimental programme consisted of thirteeneccentrically loaded prisms and ten axially loaded prisms was performed. Different details and spacings were the main variables studied. The test results were analyzed to obtain the stress-strain curve of the”confined concrete.A theoretical solution using the three dimensional finite element was proposed. The isotropic concrete model of ottoesn was applied. Also. reinforcement was considered as a bar element with two nodes. The object of this study was to. obtain theoretical model to simulate the concrete sections confined by stirrups.Comparisons between experimental, theoretical study and some other analytical models are also presented in this thesis to study the validity of the models. It was concluded that the spacing is the most effective factor in the confinement. Also using multi¬branch stirrups improves the ductility of the section than using stirrups with two branches and the same volumetric ratio. From the theoretical study it was conclud~d that, the ottosen Model describes the behaviour closely up to the failure of cover and approaching the maximum load |
