Abstract

Aim of the work
To compare efficacy and side effects of intraperitoneal instillation of ropivacaine in comparison with levobupivacaine in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery.
Results
There was insignificant statistical difference between the three groups as regards the demographic data.
There was insignificant statistical difference between the three groups as regards the hemodynamic data including systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and heart rate.
There was insignificant or mild significant difference between ropivacaine (group I) and levobupivacaine (group II), as regards visual analogue score of abdominal and shoulder pain through 24 hours. However, there was moderate to high significant statistical difference when the two groups were compared to control (saline) group (group II).
There was insignificant statistical difference as regards the comparison of postoperative nausea and vomiting with ropivacaine and levobupivacaine. However, there was a statistical difference when ropivacaine and levobupivacaine compared to saline group.
As regard mean of time of first analgesia, there was insignificant difference between group I and group II, and a moderate significant difference between group I and group III, and between group II and group III.
As regard mean of total dose of analgesia, there was insignificant difference between group I and group II. However, there was a high significant difference between group I and group III, and between group II and group III.
No side effects of local anesthetics were reported.
