Abstract

Aim of the work
To compare between atracurim and suxamethonium given by infusion technique as regard onset, potency and recovery of neuromuscular function with any possible side effects.
Conclusion
From this study we conclude that, using suxamethonium for neuromuscular blockade by infusion technique will give good stability in the degree of relaxation with excellent and rapid recovery especially in short operation and so suxamethonium could be an alternative to intermediate acting non depolarizing muscle relaxant, atracurium. But atracurium is still better than suxamethonium especially in long operations, as atracurium does not have the side effects of suxamethonium, and its prolonged infusion will show no prolonged recovery or dual blockade as that which might occur if suxamethonium has been infused for long period.
